International contacts


Today the Library is a participator of various international projects and a host for regular book, poster and art photography exhibits. The Library is a reliable partner of many foreign representations in the region. It takes part in various local events, such as days of German language and culture, La Francophonie, days of Italian culture, reading events and others.

The Library employees participate in library programs run by the Goethe Institute, the "Open World", the US State Department. They receive foreign librarians, organize joint seminars and go abroad to learn from their colleagues. Since 1992 the library has been exchanging books with the Library of Congress.

 The library has close relations with various international organizations:

- Embassies of Germany, France, the USA, Italy, Great Britain;

- General Consulate of Germany in Novosibirsk;

- Goethe Institute  in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk;

 - Italian Institute of Culture in Moscow;

- French Cultural and Information Center "Alliance Francaise" in Novosibirsk;

- American Councils For International Education in Novosibirsk;

- DAAD;

- NGO MAKSORA and others.

The Library's international activity is held by the International Contacts and Foreign Literature division which was founded in 2002 and includes:

German Reading Room. It was opened in April 1993, within the long-term Goethe Institute's "German reading rooms" project

American Corner. It was opened in March 2001, on the initiative of the US Embassy in Moscow with the support of the local administration as part of the American Centers/Corners in Russia program

 Romance Languages Section. It was opened in May 2002.

Contemporary British Literature Section. It was opened in November 2007 after the British Council had donated its collection to the library.

Italian Cultural Center. It was opened in November 2009 within the frameworks of the cooperation agreement between the Library and Italian Institute of Culture in Moscow  and NGO MAKSORA in Novosibirsk.

Our goals are:

  • To provide free access to information, library and information services;
  • To promote foreign languages;
  • To spread the knowledge of culture and history of foreign countries;

We

  • Cooperate with  foreign representations in the region;
  • Network with foreign libraries;
  •  Participate in international projects
